About

       Candice Shaughnessy is a young dramatic soprano residing in New York City. She was last seen onstage as La Badessa in Suor Angelica and Second lady in Die Zauberflöte in concert with New York Lyric Opera Theatre. Formerly a mezzo-soprano, Candice also portrayed the Mother/Grandmother in Little Red Riding Hood with Pittsburgh Festival Opera and Ruth in Pirates of Penzance with the Pittsburgh Savoyards in 2016. In 2015, Candice performed in the Miami Summer Music Festival portraying the role of Florence Pike in Albert Herring. Candice has performed on the concert stage in both Rome and Florence and was an inaugural participant in the Vancouver Summer Opera Studio program. Her opera repertoire also includes Iolanthe (Leila), Le Nozze di Figaro (Marcellina), Dialogues de carmélites (Madame di Croissy), La Clemenza di Tito (Vitellia), and Il Tabarro (Giorgetta).

Candice has served as a soloist and performed recitals for Vet Art Project Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Baroque Ensemble, Westmoreland Choral Society, Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, Belle Voci Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Tuesday Music Club, and Musicians with a Mission. 

Candice sang the title role in Henry Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, the first fully staged opera production at Seton Hill University where she received her Bachelor of Music Education degree with Magna Cum Laude honors in 2010. In 2014, Candice also recieved her Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Duquesne University where she also served as the graduate assistant for the opera program. While studying at Duquesne University, Candice was chosen to present research at the first Duquesne University Graduate Symposium titled, "Franz Schubert: Spirituality in Song." In this research she explored Franz Schubert's personal spiritual experiences and how these factors inform the performance of his song literature. Candice has maintained a keen interest in the relationship between spirituality and song literature. In the summer of 2017, she performed a series of recitals on the subject of personal spirituality entitled, "The Spiritual Singer Project: Then Sings My Soul..."
